Men 'more financially fit' than women
(30 January 2008)
Men save more money and search for better savings and mortgage deals, compared to their female counterparts.
New research by Abbey has shown that a third of women have not got the most competitive rate for their mortgage and 70 per cent of women have no savings, or only enough to last for three months.
Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey, said that there may be a number of reasons for the gender divide.
"Maybe women have less time and they're juggling more things and so they just make less time for their finances. And maybe also, they're just less confident in them," she said.
Ms Audhlam-Gardiner went on to say that now is a good time to review your own finances and become more disciplined with them.
The research also showed that the financially "fittest" regions in Britain are Wales and the south-west, with the north of England being the worst region.
