Consumers could save more on weddings
(07 February 2007)
People could spend "far, far less" on their weddings if they make certain provisions, a special occasion product provider has said.
Confetti.co.uk has recommended that the bride and groom-to-be save up for their celebration but that "there are ways of doing it a lot more cheaply" than the UK average of £18,490, as quoted by Weddingplan.
Carol Richardson, spokesperson for Confetti.co.uk, said: "It is certainly true that people are spending a lot more, but you can make your own invitations, get somebody to bake a cake, get a florist that you know to provide flowers - there are ways of doing it a lot more cheaply."
Weddingplan's research factored in the cost of wedding outfits, the church, flowers, transport, reception, honeymoon suite, stationery, photography, video, rings and the honeymoon, as well as the stag or hen weekend.
It was found that Londoners pay an average of £23,143 for their wedding, with the average wedding in the north-east costing £15,561.
Since the survey was first carried out in 1998, the cost has risen by 86 per cent and at twice the rate of inflation.
