Bundling Brits saving billions
(08 March 2007)
Britons are saving an average of £124 per year by opting for bundle deals on home electronics and telecommunications products, it has been claimed.
YouGov research for uSwitch.com found that average monthly savings of £10.35 per month were being enjoyed by two in three households across the country.
And over a quarter of the eight million households without a bundle deal plan to follow suit within 12 months, the price comparison website reports.
The most common deal that packaged more than one service was a broadband and phone package, currently used by a third of all households. An increase in the number of services offered by firms has seen a further 17 per cent add digital television to the broadband and phone selection.
"The reality of modern life is that most people now need and use more than one telecommunications service. Bundles are a good solution and can provide fantastic value and convenience, but you have to do your homework," said head of communications at uSwitch Steve Weller.
"Having 'all your eggs in one basket' may not be right for everybody. Contracts tend to be longer and if the company has a poor customer service reputation in one product area, it may impact on the other areas," he added.
More than three quarters of all home internet connections in the UK are now through broadband, recent figures revealed.
